WEEK 1

For our first lecture, we discussed the course's structure, navigating the learn online website (for assessments, tutorials and links), and the assessments that will need to be completed over the time of the course.

For the practical side of the lesson, we were shown to solid works a 2D/3D building software. The tools allow you to work directly from 3D CAD data to create high-quality illustrations, photo realistic images, and to import design data.

On the go-learn site, in the week 1 tab we were given a list of requirements to complete on the first week, this included setting up and managing folders, and gaining a basic understanding about solid works and what a part, assembly and sub assembly were. From reading and watching the tutorials i have learned how to navigate through solid works.

WEEK 2

In the second lesson we focused on learning how to use the tools which are involved with creating models in solid works. These tools included the sketch tool, smart dimensions, extruding, etc. In the week 2 practical work sheet, we were given examples of objects that we had to create using the knowledge we received in the tutorials on go learn.

I found this to be a very interesting, but challenging task, i struggled to figure out how to place circles and find their dimensions. But after returning to the tutorial i was able to understand hat i had to do.

We created 8 different objects, with 6 that had to be submitted. Out of the 6 objects we had to find the mass by going into the properties. For each of the 6 objects they had different masses which was then used to answer a quiz on go learn.

WEEK 3

The third week, the class was shown how to create tangent lines, construction lines, mirror entities and improved skills with the sketch tool.

In the week 3 practical instructions we had to create seven different objects that involved the new skills we were shown in the lesson. I found this week to be a little easier compared to last weeks, as i had been practicing at home with solid works. Again same as last week, after completion of an object we had too view the mass properties and complete the quiz on go learn.
